About Us
We love the Lord. We glorify the Lord. We share the Lord. We are going Home to be with the Lord. The Northwest church of Christ has been working in Evansville since 1963. And until the establishment of the River Ridge church of Christ in Newburgh, IN, it was the only sound congregation in the area. We have had a number of great preachers work with us here on a full-time basis and for Gospel meetings.
What we believe
We Believe in God
We believe that God exists and is eternal (Psalm 90:2; Revelation 4:8). He is Spirit (John 4:24). He is almighty (Nehemiah 9:6). He knows all things (1 John 3:20). He is the Lord of all Heaven and Earth (Psalm 118:27; 47:7). He is light (1 John 1:5). He is holy (Psalm 99:9) and righteous (Psalm 145:17). He is the just Judge (Psalm 7:11) and a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). He is also love (1 John 4:8). He is gracious and merciful (Psalm 116:5). He is the God of Peace (1 Corinthians 14:33). Truly, He is the God of salvation (Psalm 68:20). And, He is faithful to those who are His (1 Corinthians 1:9).
We Believe in the Bible
We believe that the Bible alone is God’s final message to mankind and it is profitable to everyone who reads it honestly and humbly applies it to their lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
We Believe in Jesus
We believe that Jesus is God, the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 1:8). He is the Creator, God in the flesh, and the only begotten Son of the Living God (John 1:1-18; Colossians 1:16-19; 2:9; John 3:16; Matthew 3:17). He is the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to God in Heaven (John 14:6). He is the savior of the world (Luke 2:11; 1 John 4:14). He died on the cross and was buried and arose on the third day (John 19-20) according to Old Testament prophecies (1 Corinthians 15:1-8). He ascended into Heaven and is now seated at the Right Hand of the Throne of God (Acts 2:22-36), reigning over His Kingdom, the Church (Matthew 16:18-19; 1 Timothy 6:15). He is the Christian’s Mediator (1 Timothy 2:4-5) and Advocate (1 John 2:1-2). He is returning to call everyone to His Judgment (2 Corinthians 5:10).
We Believe in the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead (1 John 5:7). Like Jesus, He shares all of the qualities and activities of the Father. He inspired holy men to write down God’s message to mankind (2 Peter 1:21; Acts 2:1-4). He is the gift of God to those who gladly receive the Gospel and are baptized in the name of God (Acts 2:38-41; Matthew 28:18-20). He is the One who searches our hearts and minds and communicates even our “unutterable groanings” to God for us (Romans 8:26-27).
We Believe in Salvation
We believe that everyone has sinned against God and is, therefore, subject to His wrath (Romans 3:23; 6:23). But, we also believe that God wants everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) and is patient with each soul, not wanting any to perish, but for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). This is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross, so that we might be redeemed, justified, and reconciled back to God, so that we might be saved (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-11). We believe that everyone who believes this, confesses their belief in this, repents of their sins, and is baptized into His death will be saved (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Peter 3:21). We believe that those who remain faithful, who overcome, will be brought Home to God in Heaven in the End (Revelation 2:10; 21-22).
We Believe in the Church
We believe that those who have been saved are added to the Church of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:41, 47; Colossians 1:13-14). We believe that the church has a responsibility to assemble together (Acts 2:42-46; Hebrews 10:24-25) locally (Romans 16:16) in order to worship God (John 4:24) as He has commanded for us to worship Him (Colossians 3:17), by offering up the sacrifices of our lips (Hebrews 13:15; Acts 4:24-13; Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16), by giving attention to the study and preaching of God’s word (1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 4:2), by the giving of our means every first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 8-9), and by partaking of the Lord’s Supper every first day of the week (Matthew 26:26-30; Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28). We believe that the church has a duty to edify itself (Ephesians 4:12-16). We believe that the church, as an organization, has a responsibility to care for the physical needs of needy saints and them alone (Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-35; 6:1-4; 11:27-30; Romans 15:25-27; 1 Corinthians 16:1-4; 2 Corinthians 8-9; 1 Timothy 5:3-16). Additionally, we believe that the church, as an organization, has but One Head, Jesus (Ephesians 1:22-23) while elders are to be appointed in every church (Titus 1:5) to shepherd the flock among them (1 Peter 5:1-4); Christ is above all and all are equal members of the body (1 Corinthians 12).
